The Cougars (12-5, 6-1 SoCon) have gone 6-1 on their home courts in 2011. The team currently stands in second with Elon after the Cougars defeated The Citadel on Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix fell to UNC Greensboro the same day.
The Spartans (14-4, 7-1 SoCon) will be looking to hold onto their lead in the conference after their 4-3 win over Elon. Freshman Ahmet Sarioglu leads the team with a 14-4 record, including an 8-3 mark at the No. 4 spot while top-seeded junior Orcun Seyrek boasts an 11-7 record and will face off against CofC senior Lukas Koncilia (Tyrol, Austria).
"Both teams will be very competitive as everyone tries to figure out where they'll line up at the conference tournament," head coach Jay Bruner said. "We are expecting good matches on both days."
Davidson (5-15, 1-6 SoCon) earned its first conference win on Apr. 3 with a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern. Senior Arie Hefter and sophomore Chris Mark came back from first-set defeats to win their singles matches in three sets to give the Wildcats the win.
Sunday's match will mark the final home contest for seniors Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) and Koncilia. Both players have made significant contributions to the College of Charleston program, helping them capture the regular-season title in 2010. Koncilia was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year as a junior in addition to first-team all-conference in singles and doubles. Boyer was selected second-team all-conference in singles and doubles in 2010.
