MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team capped off an excellent weekend with flighted singles and doubles matches against UNC Charlotte on the final day of the Charleston Challenge held Sunday at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Junior Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) and sophomore Charlie Ghriskey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) finished undefeated in singles play for the weekend, while Ghriskey and sophomore Alon Faiman (Ramat Hasharon, Israel) went unbeaten in doubles. Lesser defeated Jack Williams of Charlotte, 6-4, 6-1, in Flight 2 singles and Ghriskey topped Krzysztof Kwasniewicz, 6-1, 6-0, in Flight 6 singles. Sophomore Sebastian Lopez (Medellin, Colombia), freshman Zack Lewis (Richmond, Ky.) and freshman Matt Daly (Raleigh, N.C.) posted a 2-1 record during the three-day tournament.
“With a young team, this was a great fall for experience and development on-and-off the court,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “We finished this weekend with exceptional play and really competed well the entire three days of the tournament. Our doubles play and intensity has improved greatly over the past two months and we are starting to find the right patterns in singles. The team is on the right path for a great spring.”
The Cougars will kick off their spring schedule in January at Virginia Tech.
