Cary, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team came back strong to claim three victories at ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Duke University.
Taking to the courts amongst some of the most talented programs in the country, the Cougars were able to recover from four first-round losses, by taking three of the subsequent four consolation bracket matches.
The College began the day slowly after Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile), Rodrigo Encinas (Santiago, Chile), Charlie Ghriskey (Mount Kisko. N.Y.) and Alon Faiman (Ramat Hasharon, Isreal) all dropped first round matches against stiff competition from Duke, Clemson, UNC Wilmington and USC Upstate. However, the Cougars bounced back quickly, coming alive in the consolation bracket.
In the first match, Ghriskey easily dispatched of Wofford junior Rob Galloway , 6-2, 6-2. Ghriskey's performance was then equaled by Faiman who defeated Jackson Keith -- also of Wofford --, 6-3, 7-5. After Lesser was bounced by Charlotte University sophomore Spaniard Jordi Massalle Ferrer, 6-4, 6-2, the Chilean Rodrigo Encinas won a three set thriller over Gaston Murray of UNC Greensboro, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.
Men's tennis will be back in action at home on Nov. 8-10, at the College of Charleston Tennis Center on Patriots Point, in idyllic Mount Pleasant, S.C., where they will host the Last Chance Fall Invite.
