COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 4x100 meter relay team broke a decade old school record while Roshani Glover tied her top collegiate mark in the triple jump to help lead the College of Charleston track and field team to another strong showing at the 21st annual Weems Baskin Invitational, a two-day meet hosted by the University of South Carolina.
In total, the Cougars – participating in the meet for the third consecutive year – set 12 new personal records and claimed two event victories over the course of the two days.
On the track, the Cougars were led by a record-breaking performance from the 4x100 relay team comprised of Christa Horrocks, Lindsey Peterson, Rachel Leder and Lorna Doucette. The Cougars ran 48.63, breaking the previous mark of 48.86.
“They were great today,” said College of Charleston head coach Amy Seago. “That was a great step forward for our program.”
Also impressive on the track for the Cougars was the 100 meter hurdle duo of Leder and Alexia Neal, who ran 14.69 and 14.86, respectively, en route to two new personal records. Lorna Doucette also set a new personal record in the 100m dash, with a 12.66 second performance, while Horrocks sprinted to a third place finish in the 400m dash.
The College of Charleston distance runners were also strong, led by Hayley McMahon, who won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:44.77. McMahon was just one of six Cougars who placed in the top-10 in the 1500m, as Carlee Cassidy, Kornelia Kostka, Patricia Rein, Mary Kate Brelsford, Elizabeth Catoe, Elle Brewer and Aisha Maddox also ran well. Rounding out an impressive display from the long distance runners was Danielle Sams, who finished third in the 5K with a time of 19:03.83.
In the field, Roshani Glover led the way, tying her collegiate best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 12.06 meters. The Cougars were terrific in the throws as well, including a win in the javelin throw through a 38.40 meter throw from senior Christine Klinar. In the disc, Tiffany Sisk finished fourth and set a new personal record with a 35.36 meter throw, while teammate Alex Coyle finished third and set a new PR in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.19 meters.
