CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 74-ranked College of Charleston men's tennis team blew past local rival The Citadel on Wednesday, 7-0, in a midweek intra-city clash at the O. Perry Earle, Jr. Tennis Center.
The Cougars (13-4), who cracked the ITA top-75 rankings for the fourth time this season on Tuesday, came out swinging against the Citadel (2-26); taking all three flights in doubles play to clinch the match's opening point.
Highlighting the doubles action for The College was the play of seniors Crescente Lesser and Stephen Hardy who, along with their partners Brice Allanic and Josh Record, claimed victories on courts one and three, 8-5 and 8-3, respectively, to earn their last win in the maroon and white within city limits.
In singles play, the Cougars were dominant, winning in straight sets on all six courts to seal the decisive 7-0 victory. Claiming flight victories for the Cougars were Allanic, Lesser, recent CAA men's tennis Player of the Week Zack Lewis, Charlie Ghriskey, Alon Faiman and Hardy, all of whom helped to hand CofC it's thirteenth win on the season.
“I'm very happy with how we played,” said College of Charleston head coach Jay Bruner. “It was great to watch our two seniors play next to each other today and pick up their last wins in Charleston. This is our fourth week in the rankings this spring, which I think is a great representation of this team's consistency to show up and compete.”
Next up for the Cougars is a Sat, April 5, clash with DePaul in Atlanta, Ga., where doubles play is set for 10:00 a.m. .
