MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Dupree Hart hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI to propel College of Charleston to an 8-5 win over Northeastern on Saturday at Patriots Point.
Hart's home run was the first of his career as he joins Danny Wondrack as Cougars to hit a grand slam as their first career home run in 2016. It is the first time two players have accomplished the feat in the same season in CofC history. Hart also becomes the 11th frosh to hit a grand slam in The College's 25-year baseball history.
The Cougars (25-23-1, 9-11 CAA) opened the scoring in the second with an RBI single by Alex Pastorius. Northeastern (27-23, 10-9) took the lead in the third on a 2-run home run from Pat Madigan. Prior to Hart's long ball in the fourth, CofC plated a run on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Freshman Evan Sisk earned his first career win allowing two runs on five hits through five innings and fanned a career-high seven batters. Carter Love tossed the final two innings to earn his eighth save of the season.
The Huskies crept back into the game with a pair of runs in the sixth and another in the eighth, but RBI base hits by Luke Manzo and Hart put the game out of reach.
College of Charleston and Northeastern will complete the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
