LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three members of the College of Charleston softball team have been named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, with Taylor DuPree on the Second Team, and Rebecca Mueller and Samantha Martin earning Third Team honors.
This is the second time that both DuPree and Martin have been named to the NFCA All-Region team, and the first time for Mueller.
Taylor DuPree, a sophomore from Evans, Ga., continued to build on an impressive start to her career at The College, with an outstanding second campaign. She broke her own record for stolen bases in a single season, with 27, and recorded the fifth-highest batting average (.378) in program history. She is also tied for the third most hits in a season (73), and tied for the sixth most runs scored (46). She played, and started in, all 58 games for The Cougars in 2016.
Samantha Martin, a junior from Tallahassee, Fla., made 34 appearances in 2016, with 30 starts. She posted an ERA of 2.64, and struck out 114 batters through 164.2 innings of work. Martin's efforts on the mound earned her 16 wins, and she picked up two saves along the way. On the season, she threw 14 complete games, and threw three shutouts. Martin earned NFCA All-Region honors in her freshman campaign in 2013, as well.
Rebecca Mueller, a senior from Fair Oaks, Calif., ends her illustrious career with her best season to date. Along with earning a spot on the NFCA All-Region Third team, she was also named to the All-CAA Second team along with Martin and DuPree. Mueller recorded the seventh-highest batting average (.369) in program history, and finished the season with 66 hits, 33 RBI, and 13 doubles. She was tied for the team-lead with 21 multi-hit games as well.
The NFCA All-Region awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2016 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
