CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2017 edition of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic hosted by College of Charleston has expanded to 43 teams and will be played on Feb. 26-28 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Oak Point and Osprey Point courses on Kiawah Island, S.C.
The tournament will be played for the third time in its history at Osprey Point, which will play at 5,964 yards. Oak Point will be set-up at 5,941 yards. The two par-72 courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
After 36 holes of play, the Top 22 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 23-43 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
The tournament field includes Bethune-Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, East Tennessee State, Elon, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, High Point, Hampton, Hofstra, Indiana State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Lipscomb, Longwood, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Murray State, North Florida, UNC Asheville, UNCG, Omaha, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, Richmond, Samford, SCAD, South Alabama, Southern Miss, St. John's, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, Towson, USC Upstate, William & Mary and Wofford.
CofC will start senior Laura Fuenfstueck (Langen, Germany), who turned in a Top-10 finish at the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State last weekend, and graduate senior Mary Fran Hillow (Orlando, Fla.), freshman Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.), senior Vici Drechsler (Munich, Germany) and Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Meerbusch, Germany). Freshman Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.) will compete as an individual.
"We look for a bounce back weekend after our struggles last week in Florida," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "While Josefine Garton will still be out due to illness, we do get Mary Fran Hillow back to our lineup this week. I expect the Cougars to be a much different team this week."
Last year, Coastal Carolina won the team title (+7), while Chattanooga's Emily McLennan and Troy's Fatima Cano tied for individual medalist honors (-6).
Sunday's first round and Monday's second round will be split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 from 9:15 a.m.-12 p.m. (ET) on both courses. Tuesday's final round will be a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. (ET). Live tournament scoring will be available at: www.Golfstat.com.
