CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston tennis hosts its annual Parents' Weekend this Saturday at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point, and the women are slated to host a double-header against Charlotte (8-5) and SC State (2-6).
The match against the 49ers will take place at 10 a.m., while the tilt with the Bulldogs will go down at 2:30 p.m. The men's team was originally booked to play a match at noon as well against the Troy Trojans, but that match has since been cancelled.
The Cougars ride a three-match winning streak against UMass, Samford and Appalachian State into Saturday's action. Freshman
Anastasia Palaska earned a pair of match-clinchers from the fifth flight in those matches, and was the only Cougar to go 3-0 in singles play over that span.
Rachel McNeely,
Mara Argyriou and
Christi Woodson all went 2-1.
Charlotte is 8-5 on the season, but have gone a little frigid of late dropping two of their last three with losses to Winthrop and Coastal Carolina. The 49ers went 10-10 last season, and met the Cougars in the Queen City back in 2016. Argyriou,
Liza Fieldsend and
Helena Nyikos all picked up wins for the Cougars, but Charlotte was able to prevail 4-3 in the end. This season, the 49ers' best singles record belongs to Pierina Imparato, who is 8-3 in the fourth and fifth flights. Immie Cowper and Tai Martin have a matching record in second flight doubles action.
SC State is 2-6 on the season, but they come off a 7-0 victory against MEAC foe NC Central. The 2016 season saw the Bulldogs go 8-10 overall and win the MEAC Tournament, but they fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament 4-0 to the Florida Gators. The Cougars are 15-0 all-time against the Bulldogs in a series that dates back to 1994, and have not played them since 2007. This is the first of two meetings scheduled between them this year.
Admission to all College of Charleston tennis matches are free of charge.
