MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-0) kicked off their season on a high note on Friday, dispatching the Campbell Lady Camels (0-1) by a score of 1-0.
• The game was hotly contested in the middle of the field, so much so that neither team recorded a shot in the opening 26 minutes of the game. It wasn't until the 34
th minute that
Alyssa Beck finally broke the stalemate to put the Cougars up 1-0 heading into the locker room.
• The College had no shortage of corner kick opportunities throughout the game, taking five to the Camels' two, but none of them were able to find pay dirt. Campbell ended up winning the shot-battle 7-5, with Alexa Genas leading all players with three attempts.
•
Meredith Tunney,
Rio Speller-Drews and keeper
Genevieve Henderson all played a full 90-minute game, shoring things up on the defensive end for the College. Henderson made four saves to earn the shutout.
The Cougars will play again on Sunday, when they host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 6 p.m. at Patriots Point.
