Men's Tennis

Thomas Terrific as Tennis Triumphs in Two Tilts

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHESTERTOWN, MD. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (5-5) handled its business on the road on Friday, scoring a pair of victories in the state of Maryland against Coppin State (0-2) and Washington College (0-2).

The Cougars vanquished the Eagles 7-0, and followed that up a few hours later with a 6-1 win against the Shoremen.

CofC was too strong for a short-handed Coppin State team, earning a pair of 6-2 wins in doubles action to secure the point. In singles, all six Cougars in competition won two-set wins, with only one CofC player surrendering more than three games total en route to victory. The timing was such that Easton Thomas secured the clinching fourth point, doing so by way of a perfect 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Gavin Lewis on court three.

Things were a bit more contested against the Division III foes from Washington College, though the Cougars still handily secured the doubles point with two 6-1 wins on the top two courts. Thomas went to court six for this game, and tied with teammate Ryan Kahn for the most dominant performance of the match with both players surrendering just one game each on their paths to victory.

Washington College, who is coached by former CofC Associate Head Coach Oliver Reynolds, actually managed to take a point off the Cougars when Kyle Hickey dispatched Youssef Dabbabi 6-4, 6-3 in flight four play. Nonetheless, CofC was still undeniable, earning two-set victories on every other court. The College sat their ace Juan Estevarena for singles action in both matches, but Benedikt Henning filled in admirably with a 6-1, 6-1 and a 6-4, 6-0 victory on the day, and the rest of the lineup handled the strain well.

With the win, the Cougars pull back to even on the season at 5-5. They'll return home for a Wednesday encounter against the Campbell Camels.
