Box Score MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (7-8) made the most of its senior night encounter with The Citadel (9-20) on Thursday, defeating the Bulldogs 7-0.
The Cougars swept through doubles play, which was highlighted by
Ryan Kahn earning his first doubles win of his spring career. The senior "Kahn-quered" his opposition in flight three singles 6-4, 6-3 to finish off his senior day sweep. Fellow-senior
Juan Estevarena teamed up with
Benedikt Henning for a 6-1 win in doubles play, and earned the match-clinching singles point when he defeated Willem van Zyl 7-5, 6-1 on court two.
Easton Thomas was the first Cougar off of the courts in singles play, storming out to a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six over Roy Hobson. He was followed just a few minutes later by
Benedikt Henning's 6-0, 6-4 decision on court one over Matthew Henson, which made the match 3-0 at the time.
Both court four and court five required three sets to settle things, but both matches went the way of the Cougars.
Ksawery Pociej thwarted a comeback from Gavin Stewart (6-4, 4-6, 6-4), while
Youssef Dabbabi played his first singles match in nearly a month, outlasting Jack Pyritz 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.
The Cougars extended their winning streak over the Bulldogs to a decade, and also were able to defeat The Citadel 7-0 for the first time since 2014.
CofC will turn things around in very short order, as they will take on the James Madison Dukes in Harrisonburg on Saturday.
