CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's golf team looks to defend its title at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-15 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
Last year, the Cougars shot a then school-record, 6-under par 54-hole total of 858 to defeat runner-up Campbell by 11 strokes.
Contributing to the team victory was senior Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.) and junior Clarissa von Stosch (Kassel, Germany). Both tied Emily Hawkins of Campbell for individual medalist honors a year ago. All three carded a 4-under par 212.
Some of the same teams return from the 2018 tournament field including Kansas, North Florida and Wichita State, which all placed in the Top 5. The par-72, 6,005-yard course will also play host to Boston College, Boston University, Charleston Southern, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, ETSU, Elon, Fresno State, Jacksonville State, Marshall, Old Dominion, Radford, Troy, UAB, UNCG, Wofford (individual only) and Xavier.
The Cougars will field two teams with their starting five of freshman Emily Dunlap (Greenville, S.C.), junior Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.), Huskey, senior Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany) and junior Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England) on the "A" squad.
The "B" squad will be comprised of von stosch, sophomore Kirsty Brodie (Blairgowrie, Scotland), senior Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.), freshman Daniela Spillert (Miami, Fla.) and senior Yuki Nakayama (Kawasaki, Japan). Junior Chloe Currie (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) will compete as an individual.
"We love hosting at Kiawah Island," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "Our games look good going into this week. If we continue to play well, the team should make a run at the championship."
The Palmetto Intercollegiate, which began in 1999, will be played for the sixth time in the history of the tournament at Turtle Point. Sunday and Monday will be split tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 holes with a morning wave and afternoon wave from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (ET). Tuesday's final round will be a 9 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
CofC will be paired with Fresno State and North Florida in the first round and tee-off the No. 1 beginning at 11:40 a.m. (ET). The "B" team will play with individuals from Wofford, Xavier and Kansas.
