Elon Visits Cougars For Critical CAA Matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston Women's Soccer returns home to face off against Elon on Thursday, Oct. 17 with kick-off scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Last Outing
CofC fell to James Madison by a score of 4-0 on October 13. The Cougars presented themselves with various scoring opportunities throughout the match but couldn't find a way to execute and get on the board. Senior Alyssa Beck took a team-high three shots, two of which registered as shots on goal. Overall, six different Cougars took a shot at goal. Junior keepers Meredith Holton (7) and Maggie Berlin (5) combined for a total of 12 saves on 23 total shots.
The Opponent
Elon comes into the match with an overall record of 9-3-2 and a 3-1-1 record in CAA play. The Phoenix have won three of their last five matches, including one tie and one loss. Their biggest win of the season came in an 8-0 victory over Hampton on Sept. 15. Head coach Neil Payne is in the midst of his second season at the helm of the program. Payne has accumulated an overall record of 12-13-6 and a 4-8-2 record in conference play. The team is led by Jessica Carrieri and Carson Jones, who both have seven goals on the season apiece. Overall, 13 different players have scored at least one goal on the season.

• Freshman Olivia Freitas leads the team with three goals and three game-winners while fellow freshman Grace Powell and senior Talia Colchico have logged two goals and one game-winner each.
• Powell was named CAA Rookie of the Week for the week of 9/23 through 9/29.
• Freitas earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors from the week of 9/16 through 9/22.
• Farmer logged two goals and dished out one assist in a 4-1 win over Winthrop.
• Senior Rachel Kim, juniors Maddie Cybulski, Katrina Koomen and Haley
Mannetta, sophomore Mary Katherine Waters, along with freshman Caitlyn Gonzalez have logged one goal each this season.
