RICHMOND, Va. – College of Charleston Women's Soccer's freshmen Caitlyn Gonzalez (undecided) and Olivia Freitas (undecided), along with junior Leah Deutsch (business administration), earned All-CAA honors, announced by the league Thursday.
Gonzalez and Deutsch were named to the All-CAA Third Team while both Gonzalez and Freitas were named to the All-CAA Rookie Team. Gonzalez marks the first Cougar in program history to earn All-CAA and All-Rookie Team honors in the same season.
"We are very happy for these three players who have been a big part of our success this season," said Head Coach Christian Michner. "Obviously, Olivia Freitas and Caitlyn Gonzalez are just getting their college careers started and they've certainly started brightly. The test for each of them will be to continue to make an impact as we move forward. Leah Deutsch has been a mainstay on our backline for three years and is well deserving of this honor. She's a leader for us and shows that winning character each and every day through both training and games. I'm so happy for them and hope this is just the beginning of success they'll see at The College."
Under Michner's tutelage, 16 student-athletes have garnered a total of 23 All-Conference honors.
Over the course of the 2019 season, Gonzalez, an Austin, Texas native, appeared in 17 games and started in 12 while logging one goal and dishing out one assist en route to three points. Her lone goal of the season came in a 2-0 victory over Charleston Southern while her lone assist came from a 4-1 victory over Winthrop.
Deutsch, an Ashburn, Va. native, accumulated two assists for a total of two points as a defender this season. She played the second most minutes on the team and helped anchor the backline. This marks the first time Deutsch earned conference honors in her collegiate career.
Freitas, a Rehoboth, Mass. native, appeared in all 18 games, starting 17 this season. She is tied for first on the team with three goals and tied first on the team with two assists. In addition, she led the team in shots taken (31) and shots on goal (16). She scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Middle Tennessee, in a 1-0 victory against Jacksonville and in a 1-0 victory over Drexel. Her assists came in a 2-0 win over Charleston Southern and in a 2-1 loss to Elon.
