
Cougars Host Largest Tournament In The Country With 49-Team Field at Kiawah Island Spring Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2019 edition of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Feb. 24-26 hosted by the College of Charleston has expanded from 43 teams to 49 in this year's field.
The par-72 Osprey Point (5,984 yards) and Oak Point (5,977 yards) courses at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C., are both used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament. After 36 holes of play, the Top 24 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 25-49 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
CofC welcomes players from Bethune Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Butler, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Dayton, Delaware, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, Hampton, High Point, Hofstra, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lehigh, Lipscomb, Longwood, Monmouth, Murray State, Navy, North Alabama, North Florida, UNC Asheville, UNCG, Omaha, Presbyterian, Quinnipiac, Richmond, Sacred Heart, SCAD Savannah, South Dakota, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, UT Arlington, Towson, Tulsa, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, William & Mary, Wyoming and Youngstown State.
The Cougars are the defending tournament champions having won last year's team title with a three-round score of 872 (+8) followed by runner-up Murray State (+15). Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo, Murray State's Lucila Puente Rodriguez and UNCW's Lyberty Anderson tied for individual medalist honors (-5).
Charleston will start junior Anna-Theresa Rottluff (Dusseldorf, Germany), junior Savanah Goodman (Easley, S.C.), junior Victoria Huskey (Greenville, S.C.), sophomore Olivia Hamilton (Oakenshaw, England) and sophomore Clarissa von Stosch (Kassel, Germany).
The Cougars will also field a "B" team in the field comprised of sophomore Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.), senior Isi Nilsson (Santiago, Chile), freshman Kirsty Brodie (Blairgowrie, Scotland), senior Anna Buchanan (Athens, Ga.) and junior Yuki Nakayama (Kawasaki, Japan). Sophomore Chloe Currie (Missassauga, Ontario, Canada) will compete as an individual.
"This is the largest women's collegiate event in the country and this is the largest one we have ever had," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "We are playing well enough to defend our title. The team will need to stay patient tomorrow as we are expecting windy conditions."
Sunday's First Round and Monday's Second Round will consist of a morning wave with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start and afternoon wave with a 1:15 p.m. (ET) shotgun start on both courses. Tuesday's Final Round will be an 8:45 a.m. (ET) shotgun start.
