Charleston, S.C. – The College of Charleston begins a run of 10 games in 12 days at Patriots Point when the Cougars host Georgia Southern on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for youth with Charleston faculty, staff and students admitted free with school ID.
The Cougars remain home with two games each against UNCG and Fordham on Friday and Saturday as part of the Cougar Classic, host 2018 national champion Florida State in a doubleheader next Wednesday and open CAA play with a series against Towson on March 21-22.
Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Cougars (10-9) are above the .500 mark for the first time this season. In its most recent action, Charleston went 5-0 at the Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point.
Pitching has been a key for the Cougars' recent success with a 1.78 ERA over the last 10 games. During that stretch,
Drayton Siegling has four wins and an 0.26 ERA and was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 3.
Summer Jenkins (2.00) and
Chandler Sparkman (2.47) have also been throwing the ball well. Sparkman has a pair of wins and 24 strikeouts in her last 17 innings, including 12 in a win over Chattanooga.
Brittany Vicary is the leading hitter at .377 and has nine RBI, one behind sister Alondra for the team lead.
Noel Dominguez has also been swinging a hot bat, raising her average to .300 by going 11-for-30 with six RBI during the current Cougar run.
Georgia Southern (13-10) is led by Mekhia Freeman with a .406 average, five homers and 24 runs scored. Bailee Wilson tops the Eagles with 23 RBI, and Faith Shirley has nine doubles and 16 RBI. Aaliyah Garcia (4 wins, 2.46 ERA, 51 strikeouts) and Rylee Waldrep (5 wins, 2.52, 34 Ks) top the pitching staff.
