CHARLESTON, S.C. -  College of Charleston Director of Athletics Matt Roberts has named Maggie Mrowka the seventh head coach in Cougar softball history announced Monday.

Mrowka served as an assistant coach for the Cougars the last two seasons, helping the program to the most conference wins in program history in 2025. She will enter the role as the youngest Division I softball head coach in the country.

"I'm truly honored to step into this role. Thank you to Matt Roberts, Kate Tiller, and everyone in the Cougar family for believing in me and the vision for this program," said Mrowka. "Charleston is such a special place, and I'm excited to lead a group that is going to work hard, grow together, and compete every day to bring championships to The College."

Mrowka helped guide a turnaround for the program in 2025, seeing an increase of 21 wins from the 2024 season.

"We are excited for Maggie to lead this new era of Charleston softball," said Roberts. "She played an integral part in our program's success this past year and we look forward to watching our student-athletes flourish under her direction."

Prior to arriving in Charleston, Mrowka was active in the Fairfax, Va., softball community with US9 Baseball and Softball. In addition to providing on-field hitting and fielding coaching, she coordinated marketing efforts for camps around the country and developed communication plans to increase awareness of travel organizations.

"What an exciting day for our softball program.   Maggie is an incredible coach and leader.  She has a tenacious attitude, an unmatched competitive spirit, and a drive to be the best," said Charleston baseball head coach Chad Holbrook.  "I'm so excited for her but I'm even more happy for her girls.  They will be relentlessly coached by an energetic and dynamic leader.  Congrats Maggie and Cougar softball!"

She also provided private softball hitting and fielding instruction and assisted with the Fairfax Firebirds travel organization at practices and tournaments.

Mrowka was a three-time team captain at Mary Washington, a member of the Capital Athletic Conference All-Academic Team each season and an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2021.

"Congratulations to Maggie. She was one who I thought would excel as a coach at a high level. Extremely competitive, hardworking and innovative," said former Mary Washington head coach Dee Conway.  "She will bring strong leadership and compassion. Her ability to grow the game will serve the College of Charleston well."

She graduated Summa Cum Laude as a business administration major from Mary Washington in 2022 and earned her Master of Science in sports and recreation studies at George Mason in 2023.
