CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (5-6-3, 1-5-1) played host to Winthrop (6-8, 3-3) on Tuesday night to close out its nonconference slate. It was also the final home match of the regular season for the Cougars.

The first part of the opening half was dominated by defense, but CofC took six of the first seven shots of the match. In the 33
rd minute, the Eagles fired a shot that was deflected and then cleaned up by a Winthrop player, putting the visitors on the scoreboard first. The half ended with the Cougars taking eight shots to Winthrop's five, but the Eagles carried a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Charleston came out of the locker room on the attack. In the 53rd minute, the Cougars broke through.

Jake Nicholson. The senior sent the ball into the back of the net to give CofC the equalizer and knot the match up at 1-1.Â

Cameron Smith kept the Eagles at bay throughout the second half, finishing with two saves. The entire CofC defense did a fantastic job of keeping the ball out of the scoring area.Â
In the 77th minute,
Jake Nicholson took a corner kick. Nicholson sent a shot across the pitch that was headed into the goal by
Rio Murray. The header gave CofC the lead and the Cougars never looked back. Charleston closed out the match and its home schedule with a 2-1 victory.
