ASHEVILLE, N.C. --- The College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-1-2) found its offense on Wednesday night as it erupted for five goals en route to a 5-3 victory at UNC Asheville (1-5). Entering the contest, the two clubs had combined for one goal in their last eight combined matches.
The Cougars struck first when sophomore Kane Ritchie scored in the match's 26th minute off the assist from Rio Murray. After the Bulldogs evened the score, CofC took a 2-1 advantage when sophomore Jakob Kristensen converted a penalty kick opportunity. UNC Asheville scored in the 40th minute, and the match was tied 2-2 at the break.
Charleston did not waste much time getting on the board in the second period, as senior Jake Nicholson set up fellow senior Nick Burnz for a goal. Burnz's first goal in a CofC uniform gave the visitors a 3-2 edge. In the match's 77th minute, the Bulldogs once again evened the score. The Cougars, however, were quick to respond. UNC Asheville vacated the goal and sophomore James Cox took advantage, sending one into the back of the net to take a late lead. Jacob Kristensen would later ice it with his second goal of the night, scoring off a nifty move in the 89th minute.
