The UCF Challenge features a field with nine Top-50 teams
ORLANDO, FLA. – The College of Charleston women's golf team is back in action this weekend, teeing off the spring season at the UCF Challenge from Feb. 6-8 in Orlando, Fla. The 18-team field is stacked, featuring nine programs currently ranked in the Top 50 nationally and four
teams in the Top 25, including No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 Auburn and No. 22 UCF.
"We definitely aren't easing into the spring season," head coach Jamie Futrell said. "The UCF Challenge always has great teams to compete against and this season is no different. It will be a great early season test for us."
The three-day tournament is being played at the Par-72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club with the field teeing off at 8:45 a.m. each day beginning Sunday. Live results will be available on GolfStat.
CofC enters the UCF Challenge after a strong fall campaign that saw the Cougars rack up three consecutive Top-4 team finishes in October. The Cougars captured the Edisto Island Invitational, and most recently placed fourth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Freshman Emma Schimpf leads Futrell's lineup after making her collegiate debut in style during the fall. Schmipf posted a team-low scoring average of 71.33 and wrapped up the fall with three straight Top-7 individual finishes, highlighted by her first career tournament win at Edisto.
Futrell's lineup also features sophomore Viktoria Hund, freshman Mary Kathryn Talledo, sophomore Smith Knaffle and senior Jodee Tindal. Hund is coming off back-to-back Top-10 finishes to finish the fall, racking up six rounds of par or better this season already. Tindal is also looking to build off her momentum in October as she posted back-to-back season best 218s at CofC's last two fall tournaments.
