CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston Board of Trustees unanimously approved the initial phases of CofC Athletics' multi-million-dollar improvement plans to the Patriots Point complex on Tuesday. The approval sparks the launch of the capital project, which has already received more than $1.8 million in funding from private donations.

"Thank you to the Board of Trustees, President Hsu and the administration at The College for supporting our vision for the facility improvements at Patriots Point," CofC Director of Athletics Matt Roberts said. "Most importantly, thank you to the donors who continue to invest in our baseball program and are committed to enhancing the experience of our student-athletes."

The initial Board-approved phase includes a brand-new turf field, new stadium lights and a new videoboard to replace the existing one. The first phase is an estimated $2.5 million initiative. The entire Patriots Point project when completed, designed in coordination with McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture firm, also includes new locker rooms, team rooms and video rooms with cutting-edge training technology, a hydrotherapy training area, outdoor patio and club areas for donors and new coaches' offices, among other improvements and additions.

"We are so thrilled about this project getting started so quickly," CofC head baseball coach Chad Holbrook said. "We're thankful to President Hsu, the Board of Trustees and Matt Roberts for sharing that same enthusiasm with our players and coaches. It is so exciting to see the leaders of The College get behind this project and work hard to ensure it gets done. It's also refreshing to witness firsthand the generosity of our donors and how much they share in our excitement as a staff and team. This facility will make a huge impact on our baseball program and the entire athletic department."

With the unanimous greenlight from the Board and the momentum of donations from CofC's generous donors, the project will break ground with the initial phase in the coming months. By project's end, the baseball stadium's capacity will swell by more than 3,000 seats and the existing roof will be extended to cover the new seating area. Full renderings of the plans can be found here.
