CofC Outlasted in Slugfest

Down 7-0, Charleston fought back, eventually leveling the contest at nine before surrendering four runs in the seventh.
CRITICAL POINTS AGAINST WOFFORD:
- Wofford came out swinging and paired with Charleston defensive miscues, held a 7-0 advantage after two.
- CofC's comeback efforts began in the third, scoring five in the frame backed behind sophomore Alex LaCoste's grand slam.
- Down 9-6, redshirt junior Braeden Smith's two-run shot in the fifth put the Cougars within one.
- LaCoste came up clutch again the very next inning, singling up the middle to plate sophomore Landon Penfield.
- Wofford regained the lead for good in the seventh, scoring four runs to break the tie.
- LaCoste went 2-for-4 in the game with a walk and career-best five RBI.
- Penfield and graduate Reece Holbrook also collected multi-hit efforts in the loss.
OF NOTE:
- Charleston is now 41-13 against Wofford and 19-7 as the road team.
- CofC has slugged multiple home runs for the second straight game and third time this year.
- LaCoste hit the 66th grand slam in program history, becoming the 51st player to do so.
- The Cougars have hit multiple grand slams in the same season 14 times.
- Freshman Austin Wiegandt appeared in his second ballgame on the mound, striking out a pair in a scoreless eighth.

- Charleston hosts Stony Brook for a three-game conference series March 13-15 at Patriots Point. First pitch in the opener is set for 6 p.m.
