WILMINGTON, N.C. – Tom Wilson scored his first career goal in the 61st minute to give College of Charleston a 1-1 draw with host UNCW in a CAA contest on Saturday night.
The Cougars (1-1-2, 1-0-1 CAA) fell behind 1-0 just five minutes earlier when Cannon Tootle found the back of the net.
Leonardo D'Ambrosio then helped produced the tying tally when he fed Wilson for his first career assist.
Charleston had two good opportunities to win it in the closing stages of the match. A shot by D'Ambrosio in the 82nd minute was blocked but created a corner kick chance. Wilson got off a shot on the corner but could not convert, and a shot by
Chris Elliott with just over a minute left was saved.
"The guys put in really hard work tonight," said head coach
Keith Wiggans. "Wilmington is a good team, and our guys did a good job being solid defensively but also creating some very good chances. It is a hard-earned point on the road."
Both teams had 10 shots with Charleston getting two each from Wilson, D'Ambrosio and Elliott.
Olly Marshall made three saves.
The Cougars are off until next Saturday when they host Monmouth in a 1 p.m. game at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
