Charleston Heads to Wilmington to Open CAA Play

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston volleyball team will make the short trek up the coast this weekend bound for Wilmington, N.C. where the Cougars will begin conference play against UNCW. First serve on Saturday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with Sunday's match slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
 
The Cougars enter CAA action with a 5-8 overall record after posting a pair of sweeps over Montana and UNC Greensboro last weekend at the CSU Chucktown Throwdown. UNCW stands at 3-8 and 1-1 in CAA play after splitting with William & Mary last weekend.

QUICK HITTERS
  • The Cougars sport a 26-11 all-time record against UNCW after a sweep of the season series in 2021. Charleston has won nine of the last 10 meetings with the Seahawks including four of the last five.
  • Senior Claire Campbell has been tremendous thus far entering the weekend ranked fifth in the nation with blistering .444 hitting percentage. The Raleigh, N.C. native has hit at least .300 in all but one appearance including five performances over .500.
  • Charleston is 4-0 this season after winning the first set, and 5-0 when claiming the third frame.
  • Senior Gabi Bailey paces the Cougar attack averaging 3.40 kills per set which ranks fifth in the CAA entering the weekend. The Harvard, Mass. native is closing in on a personal milestone needing just 20 kills to reach the 500-mark for her career.
  • Claire Campbell joined some elite company last Friday against Montana becoming the 16th player in program history to reach the 250-block mark in her career. She is currently just 50 shy of moving into a tie for ninth place in program history.
  • Gabi Bailey continues to rack up the kills this season and is closing in on a key milestone needing only 20 to reach the 500-mark for her career.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
 
  • UNCW carries a 3-8 overall record and a 1-1 mark in CAA play into the weekend. The Seahawks edged William & Mary, 3-2, last Saturday, before the Tribe rebounded with a sweep on Sunday.
  • Katie Lanz paces the attack for UNCW averaging 2.90 kills per set to lead a group of four Seahawks with at least 50 kills this season.
  • Caitlyn Callahan leads the defense averaging 0.95 blocks per set which ranks eighth in the CAA.
  • The Seahawks enter the weekend ranked fourth in the league in blocks per set (2.01).
