MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Delaney Dawes scored her third goal of the season with 17 minutes remaining to lift College of Charleston into a 1-1 draw with Stony Brook on Sunday at Ralph Lundy Field.
The result keeps the Cougars tied for seventh along with Stony Brook and Delaware in the race for a berth in the CAA Tournament. The trio each have nine points, one more than Campbell, with the top six earning a spot in the postseason.
After falling behind in the early stages of the second half, Charleston upped its pressure and it paid off when Shea Vidovic put a perfectly placed ball in the box which Dawes snuck in the lower right. Dawes moved into a tie for the team lead this season and scored for the 12th time in her career.
"Today was another hard-fought match and valuable point in the league," said head coach Christian Michner. "I thought we were sloppy in the first half and still created some good chances to put ourselves in front.
"We collected ourselves at halftime and were really a better team coming out. Frankly, we did enough to win the game but just couldn't find the winner. I am proud of our effort and the intensity of our play today."
The Cougars took 10 of their 16 shots in the second half and had five more than the Seawolves for the day. Bailey Wood and Savannah Barron split time in goal and each made one save. Wood was one of eight seniors honored in pregame ceremonies.
Charleston continues its three-game homestand on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Monmouth.
