CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two teams that got off to a quick start in CAA play meet on Saturday when College of Charleston visits Northeastern for a 6 p.m. match at Parsons Field in Boston.
The Cougars earned a 2-1 victory over Drexel in their conference opener last Saturday on a PK goal by
Leonardo D'Ambrosio with less than a minute remaining. Charleston then extended its overall record to 2-0-2 with a 2-0 defeat of Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.
The four-game unbeaten streak is the longest to start a season for Charleston since ripping off five straight wins to start the 2009 campaign. Northeastern is 2-1-1 overall and opened its CAA slate with a 3-1 road win at UNCW last weekend.
Peter Thomas scored the second goal against the Chanticleers to become the first Cougar with two this season. D'Ambrosio paces the team with two assists, and
Olly Marshall has a 1.00 goals against average and .800 save percentage while playing all 360 minutes. He had his fifth career shutout against Coastal.
Northeastern's Federico Tellez leads the CAA and is tied for the national lead with five assists, and Fraser Brown is tied for the conference lead with three goals. Gregor Shaw has a 1.50 GAA in four starts.
The Huskies hold a 5-4 lead in the series dating back to the Cougars joining the CAA in 2013. Charleston won, 1-0, last year at Ralph Lundy Field on a goal by
Iker Carew.
