Cross Country Teams to Compete at Pirate Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston cross country teams return to action Friday when they compete in the Pirate Invitational at Overton's Lake Kristi.
The men's 8k race gets underway at 9 a.m. followed by the women's 6k at 9:45. The 23-team field includes CAA members Campbell, Elon, Hampton, UNCW and William & Mary as well as three-time defending women's national champion NC State.
Sophia Brown has been the top women's runner through two meets this season. At the Firetower Project in Boone, N.C., three weeks ago, Brown moved into seventh place in the Cougar record book with a 6k time of 21:46.04.
Savannah Stoutt, Abby Mogg, Bella Hudson and Cayden Crismon joined Brown in the top 40 to help Charleston finish fifth in the team standings.
Graduate student Jackson Reid topped the men with an 8k time of 25:40.73 to take 33rd place and just miss out on one of the top 25 times in school history. Roger Brown and Andrew Catapano also claimed spots in the top 50.
