CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston takes on longtime rival Georgia Southern in a midweek contest Wednesday in Statesboro, Ga. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
The teams have met 79 times with most of them coming when they were members of the Southern Conference. The Eagles hold a 49-30 lead in the all-time series and have won 23 of 34 in Statesboro.
Charleston Southern and Furman are the only two teams to have played the Cougars more often than Georgia Southern.
The game is the second of three the teams will play this year. The Cougars won, 5-1, at the Bubly Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., last month behind a complete game effort by
Payton Lemire and will square off at Patriots Point on April 24.
Charleston (7-13) took one of three at Delaware last weekend to open CAA play while the Eagles are 15-7 after winning three of four games at their Hail Southern Classic.Â
Following Wednesday's game, the Cougars return to conference action this weekend with a series against Stony Brook at Patriots Point. The teams play Friday (5:00), Saturday (1:00) and Sunday (noon).
