
Cougars Down Queens 3-1 in Midweek Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team downed Queens 3-1 in a midweek matchup to advance to 5-0 on the season.
The Cougars tallied the first goal of the game in the 14th minute, when a cross from Etienne Julien into the box was won by Noah Gold, who got a foot on it to put it in the bottom right corner. Charleston entered the break with a 1-0 lead.
Stian Bendvold doubled the lead for the Cougars, pressuring the Royals' back line to win an open shot on goal and mark his first career goal. The final goal for Charleston came off a corner kick from Leonardo D'Ambrosio in the 68th minute, which found the head of Tom Wilson on the right post.
Queens was able to get a goal back in the 76th minute but could not overcome the deficit, giving the Cougars the win.
Charleston outshot their opponent 19-8, only allowing two shots in the first half. Adding eight corner kicks to their stat line tonight, the Cougars rank fourth in the nation in corner kicks per game. The Charleston offense this season also ranks second in the nation in points per game and third in scoring offense.
The Cougars will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 14 to kick off conference play in Stony Brook, N.Y to take on the Seawolves. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. and will be available to watch on FloFC.
