Sophia Brown Makes Record Book Move at Firetower Project

BOONE, N.C. – Sophia Brown moved up in the College of Charleston women's cross country record book to lead the Cougars at the Firetower Project on Friday at the Don Kennedy Trails in Boone, N.C.
Brown covered the 6k distance in a time of 21:46.04 to climb from 10th to seventh in Charleston history. She was one of five runners to place in the top 40 in a field of 121 to lead the Cougars to fifth in the team standings.
Savannah Stoutt was next in 36th (22:44.64) followed by Abby Mogg (37th, 22:47.88), Bella Hudson (39th, 22:50.72) and Cayden Crismon (40th, 22:51.19).
Jackson Reid led the Charleston men by taking 33rd place in the 8k race with a time of 25:40.73. That mark left him just 1.2 seconds from claiming a spot among the top 25 times in school history.
Two other Cougars – Roger Brown (45th, 26:07.69) and Andrew Catapano (49th, 26:12.36) – were in the top 50, and Rob DiMedio (26:31.01) and Justin Bevacqua (26:33.02) rounded out the Charleston scorers.
The Cougars are off until September 28 when they travel to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational.
