CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 19 Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at Patriots Point in non-conference action. With the loss, Charleston moves to 3-6-1 on the season.
After trading shots to start the game, Georgia Southern found a breakaway opportunity in the 10
th minute to take the lead. The lone goal would later prove to be the game winner in a tight back-and-forth affair.
The teams battled possessions for the remainder of the half, with Georgia Southern outshooting Charleston 9-4 with the Cougars holding the corner kick edge 3-1 entering the locker room.
The early stages of the second half lived in the midfield before both squads found the offensive third of the field. Charleston created two potential cross opportunities in the final minutes but could not connect.
The Eagles outshot the Cougars 13-8 with five shots on goals compared to Charleston's four. Charleston won the corner kick battle 8-2.
Jourdan Schumacher made four saves in goal while
Matt Lenert paced Charleston with two shots on goal.
Lennon Gill and
Dan Toulson provided the remaining attempts at the net.
The Cougars return to Patriots Point Saturday, September 27 to host CAA rival William & Mary. Action is set for 1:00 p.m.
