Biography

Senior (2016-17): Appeared in two fall tournaments for the Cougars, going 1-3 in singles and 4-1 in doubles ... Secured the Flight Three Doubles Co-Championship at the CofC Classic, beating Bissett/Georgi of ECU ... Went a perfect 3-0 in doubles play alongside Ryan Khan at the ECU Fall Shootout, knocking off Salinas/Simonsen of JMU (7-6(6)), Osses-Kinog/Port of Elon (7-5) and Dunbar/Felisa of Richmond (6-1) ... Posted a 4-4 dual doubles record, playing primarily alongside Vasily Kichigin at No. 3 ... Won his first three doubles matches of the year with victories against tandems from NC A&T, Lynchburg and The Citadel ... Was 1-0 in dual singles play ... Finished his CofC career with a 6-2 record in singles and a 8-11 record in dual doubles

Junior (2015-16): Posted a 1-2 record in doubles play, earning a win over Boston’s No. 3 doubles team, 6-1, on March 11. Sydow was a part of the College’s run for its first CAA Championship, and a berth in the NCAA tournament against No. 3 ranked North Carolina. 

Sophomore (2014-15): Sydow played primarily at the No. 6 singles flight, and put together a 6-2 overall record in singles competition in 2015, including a win at the No. 2 position against Spartanburg Methodist, 6-1, 6-0. Played in seven matches at the No. 1 doubles position with Brice Allanic as his partner, and posted a 2-5 record in those flights. 

Freshman (2013-14 @ Minnesota): Finished the season 5-7 in singles and 8-18 in doubles... Was 3-1 in three-set matches... Clinched team wins with singles victories against Green Bay and Marquette (Jan. 31)... Went 8-12 in doubles in the spring, playing primarily with Juan Pablo Ramirez, going 7-9 with a 7-7 record at the No. 3 position... Was 2-3 in fall singles action, winning in his first collegiate match, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9), against Princeton's Ben Quazzo (Oct. 31) and adding another victory against Christopher Ellis of Bates at the Lakewood Ranch Invitational (Nov. 8).

Personal: Plans to major in economics... Most memorable sports thrill was turning around an important match in front of the home crowd in Venezuela... Enjoys listening to music... Father, Franz Sr., played tennis at Georgia Tech from 1986-1990... Son of Franz and Pilar Sydow... Born Feb. 3, 1995... Competed with the Pro-M Tennis Academy in the Netherlands... Ranked as high as 113 by ITF in 2012... Competed for both the Dutch and Venezuelan national teams and was a finalist at the Under 16 and Under 18 Dutch national championships.
