With the win, Charleston's record improved to 1-1-1, while the Panthers fell to 0-1-1.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead to intermission after an own goal with 8:47 remaining in the opening half.
GSU's Jason Rivers' goal with 15:48 left in the match tied it at 1-1. He knocked in a rebound from about five yards out when a shot from teammate Bruce Holt carromed off the right post.
Diaz Granados' game-winner came off an assist from Jeff Files from about 15 yards out.
At halftime of the match, the 1977 and 1978 College of Charleston's men's soccer teams were recognized on the field. Ted Miller, who was the Cougars' head coach from 1974-78, received a plague from his former players.
The Panthers held a 12-10 edge in shots, while the Cougars had an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.
In the opener, Central Florida got first half goals from Ornulf Olsen and Zegai Habtom en route to the victory over The Citadel.
With the win the Golden Knights improve to 1-1-1, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2-0.
Olsen opened the scoring just 6:08 into the match when he scored from about 10 yards out for a 1-0 UCF lead.
The Citadel's Cody Bragg tied it with a goal at the 23:25 mark, but UCF's Habtom answered with the game-winning goal from about 25 yards out just before half (42:07) giving the Golden Knights a 2-1 advantage at intermission.
The Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic concludes on Sunday with the The Citadel taking on Georgia State at 1:00, and College of Charleston hosting Central Florida at 3:30.
