Underwood put the Wolfpack on the board with a penalty kick 8:51 into the game following a take down by Peri Brenner of CofC. Underwood blasted one to the right side of the Cougar goalie for the go ahead goal and the 20th goal of her career.
In the first half NC State had two shots that hit the cross bar and a shot hit the right post. The Wolfpack out shot the Cougars 19-7 and it would take a power outage before the Cougars got on the board. With about five minutes left in the half one of the four light towers went out and 1:06 later CofC tied the game up at one. Stewart headed one towards the goal and the ball ricocheted off a NC State player and into the goal.
The teams remained tied for the next 71 minutes through the second half, the first overtime and 2:24 into the second overtime. The Wolfpack scored the "golden goal" off a cross into the box by Erin Griswold that Underwood headed into the left center of the net just out of the reach of Brenner.
The Cougars, who were playing in their first game since a 10-day trip to Europe, next take to the field on Sunday at 1:30 PM versus the Temple Owls. The match will be the finale of the Quality Inn and Suites Classic. Tomorrow night NC State takes to the field against Temple at 7:00 PM.
