Third-seeded College of Charleston edged sixth-seeded The Citadel 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Championships at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel.
College of Charleston improves to 17-5 while The Citadel drops to 10-12.
The Citadel picked up the doubles point for a 1-0 early lead. College of Charleston's Justin Malina and Jimmy Petit gave the Cougars a doubles match with an 8-3 win at No. 3. The Bulldogs evened the score with an 8-2 win by James Eason and Daniel Dossetor at No. 1 with David Lara and Ananda Sawmynaden clinching the doubles point, grabbing an 8-5 win at No. 2.
The Cougars got on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win from Player of the Year Or Dekel at No. 1 singles. Ashok Ramachandra picked up CofC's second point at the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-3 over Derek Jose. Charleston's Omer Abramovich topped David Lara at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-4 for a 3-1 Charleston lead. Alex Quillis clinched the match for CofC, coming back from a set down to defeat Martin King 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The Cougars advance to the semifinals where they will meet No. 2 Furman on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 p.m. at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel.
