Nikki Williams scored a team-leading 18 points and 10 rebounds to post her third career double-double and second of the year to lead the College of Charleston women's basketball team to the 62-37 win over the UNC Greensboro Spartans in action this afternoon at Fleming Gym in Greensboro, N.C.

The Spartans finally got on the board at the 15:31 mark with a jumper by Lakiah Hyson. UNC Greensboro cut the deficit to five on several occasions but CofC seemed to have an answer, the last coming with 2:51 remaining in the half. A Gini Grimsley three point made the score 20-15 but Charleston responded with a 6-1 run the next 2:50 minutes to take the 26-16 lead. A Cougar three-shot foul with .4 seconds on the clock put UNCG at the line where Grimsley connected on all three free throws to cut the margin to eight, 26-18 heading into intermission.
The Spartans cut the deficit to seven with a free throw at the 18:46 mark in the second half before Charleston embarked on a 13-4 run to take the 16-point 39-23 lead with 12:18 remaining. UNCG would only get as close as 12 (39-27 9:13 2nd) the remainder of the game as the Spartans were outscored 23-10 to take the 25-point 62-37 loss.
Williams led all scorers this afternoon with her 18 points. Following for the Cougars was Jill Furstenburg, who went two-for-three from behind the three-point arc to total 17. CofC stole the ball a season-high 15 times, compared to just five for UNCG.
Charleston returns home in its next game as it hosts Furman Saturday, Jan. 12th in a 2:00 p.m. game at the John Kresse Arena.
