
No. 58 Cougars? Tennis Visits Davidson and Appalachian State This Weekend

CofC (11-8, 4-0 SoCon) holds a one-match lead in the Southern Conference over Elon and Georgia Southern. The 58th-ranked team in the nation most recently defeated Massachusetts 6-0 in a shortened match that ended a 10-match home stand.
Senior Holly Dowse (Tuncurry, Australia/Forster) and junior Emma Hayman (Wanganui, New Zealand/New Mexico) rank 76th in the nation in doubles, according to the latest ITA poll. The pair are on a five-match win streak, including an 8-5 victory over 19th-ranked Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable of Princeton. Dowse and Hayman are 12-5 from the top spot this year.
Sophomore Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C./Pope) boasts the best singles record on the team. She is 13-5 overall, including an 11-2 mark as the No. 3 seed. She earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Massachusetts' Tanisha Hodgson on Mar. 17.
Davidson (8-4, 1-1 SoCon) suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 65 Winthrop on Mar. 18 in non-conference action. The Wildcats are led by senior Virginia Berry who owns a 7-4 in both No. 1 singles and doubles. Sophomore Katharine Dicconson is also playing well for Davidson with a four-match win streak in singles competition, alternating between the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots.
Appalachian State (6-6, 0-2) is looking for its first Southern Conference victory after losing conference matches to Chattanooga and Elon. The Mountaineers will play Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C. before returning home to host Charleston. Freshman Ellie Linsell and sophomore Olivia Stannard ended their five-match win streak as the top seed in doubles with an 8-2 loss to Emily Hangstefer and Grace Robinette of Chattanooga.
Following the weekend, CofC returns to Patriots Point for a home match against the Elon Phoenix on Mar. 24.
