Cougars Claim Championships at CofC Invitational

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.- The College of Charleston's men's tennis team concluded play on Sunday with the claiming of two of three doubles flights and four singles flights at the CofC Invitational held at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
Senior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) lead the way for the Cougars this weekend, going undefeated in flight one of singles against players from UNC Charlotte, Gardner-Webb and Appalachian State. Newcomer Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) had a great home opening, going undefeated in singles and in doubles. Trintignac, Lesser, and sophomore Brice Allanic (Colombes, France) all picked up flight championships in singles play.
The Cougar tandem of junior Billy Kenny (Pawley's Island, S.C) and Lesser were the doubles flight three champions after defeating Adam Knutsson and Blake Dunlap of Gardner-Webb on Sunday, 8-3. Trintignac and Allanic were also victorious today in flight one doubles, topping Korhan Ates and Stephen Martin of Gardner Webb, 8-2.
Trintingnac, Lesser, Allanic, and junior Bryan Roberts (Charlotte, N.C) all won their individual singles flights versus players from Gardner-Webb. Trintignac topped Adam Knutsson, 6-2, 6-1, Lesser downed Kohran Ates, 6-2, 6-2, Roberts defeated Ernest Alberch, 6-1, 6-4, while Allanic won over Stephen Martin in a close three-setter 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (0).
"This weekend was a good test for our team to see how to handle three days of matches against strong competition,” CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. “We had a chance to see where we need to improve while we still have more matches to play this fall. I am excited to see how good this team can be as they continue to push each other in practice.”
The Cougars will return to the court Nov. 4-6 as they host the Cougar Challenge at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point.
