CofC Takes Championships at Cougar Challenge

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.- The College of Charleston men's tennis team earned four singles flight championships and one doubles championships after the final day of the home-hosted Cougar Challenge this weekend at Patriots Point.
Senior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France), junior Bryan Roberts (Charlotte, N.C.), and sophomores Crescente Lesser (Santiago, Chile) and Brice Allanic (Colombes, France) all won their respective flights in singles against players from Jacksonville University, Wofford College, and Presbyterian College.
In play today against Presbyterian College, Trintignac topped Berghaus today, 6-2, 6-4, in the singles first flight, while Lesser beat Sprouse, 6-0, 6-2, in the singles second flight. Roberts ousted Crocker in the third flight, 6-1, 6-0, Allanic defeated Walters, 6-3, 6-0, in the fourth flight, with Billy Kenny (Pawley's Island, S.C.) wrapping up the fifth singles flight against Snead, 6-2, 6-3.
Trintignac, Roberts, Allanic, and Lesser each went 3-0 in this weekend's tournament, as did the Cougar tandem of Roberts and senior Chris Toussaint (Charlotte, N.C.).
Roberts teamed with Toussaint claim the doubles third flight championships after defeating Sprouse and Walters, 8-6. In the doubles second flight, Lesser and senior Tom Delme (Hamoir, Belgium) took Snead and Crocker, 8-5.
"Overall it was a great weekend for the Cougars," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "There were challenges that each player had to overcome each day to compete their best and I thought we did a super job of getting up for the challenge.
"It was a good opportunity to get these matches in November to end the fall season. We have lots of hard work ahead as we prepare for the spring schedule, but we know what is ahead of us and I'm excited to see what this group is capable of as a team."
The Cougars will return to play against Clemson University on January 15, 2012.
