LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount hit for a .357 attack percentage and defeated College of Charleston, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-12), in the final match of the Long Beach State/LMU tournament from Los Angeles.

The Cougars (8-2) lost matches in consecutive days for the first time in over two years as Loyola Marymount (5-4) never trailed in the three-set victory.

CofC committed 19 attack errors and hit .100 as a team. Loyola Marymount scored 11 points off of service errors.

Litara Keil and Kathleen Luft each had 11 kills for the Lions, while Caitlin DeWitt had eight kills and a .700 hitting mark. LMU tallied 11 aces as a team, including six from Betsi Metter.

Charleston's Cara Howley was a bright spot for the Cougar offense, tallying eight kills on 13 swings.

CofC was out of sorts early in the first set, allowing Loyola Marymount to open a 12-3 lead. Charleston began to side out and pulled all the way to within four at 19-15 after a Howley/Emily Neideffer block. But the Lions did not relinquish the attack, eventually winning a 25-18 decision after a service ace. Charleston hit .261 in the first set, while LMU hit .357.

Loyola Marymount never trailed in the second set, hitting .500 as a team and side-ing out at a 70 percent clip. CofC committed eight attacking errors, and never pulled closer than three points at 11-8. Howley finished with four kills in the set, but the Lions ran to a 25-16 set victory.

The CofC reserves played most of the third set with Kari Fidelholtz, Grace Rebarchak, Catey Warren, Maddie Hills and Ashley Watson all seeing action on the court. Fidelholtz had two kills and a block, while Rebarchak also contributed a block. LMU was up 9-1 early and won the set, 25-12.

Charleston returns home this weekend for the College of Charleston Holiday Inn Classic, featuring Ball State, SMU, UNC-Asheville and Alabama A&M.
