Charleston Competes in Blue Ridge Classic

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – College of Charleston volleyball travels to Asheville, N.C. to compete in the Blue Ridge Classic Sept. 5-6 at the Harrah's Cherokee Center. The Cougars play Bradley, Western Carolina and Charlotte in neutral site action.
 
The matches will not be streamed. Tickets can be purchased through the Harrah's Cherokee Center.
 
WEEKEND SCHEDULE:
  • Friday, Sept. 5: vs. Bradley at 11 a.m. 
  • Friday, Sept. 5: vs. Western Carolina at 7 p.m. 
  • Saturday., Sept. 6: vs. Charlotte at 2 p.m.
 
OPENING SERVE:
  • Charleston opened the campaign at home with the CofC Classic.
  • The Cougars won its first game of the year Saturday evening in a four-set victory versus Mercer.
  • Graduate student Izzy Marinelli had a team-best 35 kills in the opening weekend while freshman Caroline Noonan collected 32, including 15 against App State.
  • Noonan became the first freshman since Devon Rachel in 2015 to tally 15 kills and zero attack errors in a match.
  • Sophomore Emma Duffield's eight service aces lead the CAA and is good for 26th nationally.
  • Head coach Jason Kepner picked up his 370th career win against the Bears.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
  • Bradley won two of its three matches at the CEFCU Invitational, defeating Quinnipiac and Western Illinois. Three different Braves had 10-plus blocks.
  • Western Carolina is 2-1 to begin the year, beating Texas Tech in five sets in the season opener at the FAU Invitational. Zoe Zudans tallied 50 kills over the three matches.
  • Charlotte lost its first three contests at the Winthrop Invitational. 119 of the team's 140 kills have come from three players.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
  • CofC faces Bradley for the first time in school history Friday morning.
  • The Cougars are 21-8 all-time against former SoCon foe Western Carolina and have won 19 consecutive matches. The College opened the 2024 campaign against the Catamounts with a straight-set win and recorded 20 blocks.
  • Charleston is 5-3 versus Charlotte and will face the 49ers for the first time since Sept. 3, 2022.
 
UP NEXT:
  • Charleston has a quick turnaround with a home match on Monday, Sept. 8 against The Citadel. Opening serve from TD Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
