PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team earned its first road victory of the season after defeating Drexel 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Vidas Athletic Complex.
“What a great conference victory by our players today,” said head coach Ralph Lundy. “We fought and pulled together to earn a really tough road conference win. I'm very proud of the way our team prepared for today's match and executed our game plan. As long as we play with that effort throughout the rest of this season we will be a tough team to beat.”
The Cougars (5-3-1, 2-0 CAA) have now won two straight CAA matches for the first time since 2013 when they beat James Madison and Northeastern in consecutive games. CofC, who is off to its best start since 2010, tallied their first road victory of the season. With the win on Saturday, head coach Ralph Lundy moves one win away from 300 career wins at The College of Charleston.
Sophomore defender Martin Sedarri's header was the difference in the match when T.K. Abderahman set him up in the 54th minute. Sedarri notched his first goal of the season while Abderahman collected his second assist. 10 different players have now scored a goal for the Cougars in 2015.
Junior goalkeeper Kevin Shields, who is ranked 8th in the nation with 5.6 saves per game, made seven more saves today in his first shutout of the season. He now has made 35 saves in his first five starts since taking over the starting job.
The College returns to the friendly confines of Patriots Point for matches against Delaware on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and James Madison on Saturday, Oct. 10.
