Men?s Tennis Powers Past Richmond, 6-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston men's tennis powered past University of Richmond to cruise to earn a 6-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at Patriots Point Tennis Center.
Senior Charlie Ghriskey led the Cougars by going 2-0 in singles and doubles without dropping a single game. He and partner Vasily Kichigin started the Cougars (10-4, 1-0 CAA) off on the right foot, making quick work of James Aronson and Canyon Teague, 8-0, to improve to 5-1 on the year. Ghriskey met Teague again in singles, earning a swift 6-0, 6-0 win on court three. The Mount Kisco, N.Y. native is 10-4 in singles action, with seven of those wins coming at the No. 3 spot.
The doubles point came down to third-seeded junior Josh Record and sophomore Rodrigo Encinas. The duo bested Caleb Troy and Jonathan Quenard in a tiebreak, winning 8-7(10-8) to move to 5-1 on the year.
Junior Zack Lewis increased CofC's league to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Aronson on court five. Kichigin clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Troy. After capturing the first set 6-3 and dropping the second set by the same margin, Encinas had a third-set rally to defeat Richmond's top-seeded Ethan Dunbar 6-1 for his sixth win at the No. 1 spot.
The Spiders' (7-4) lone point came at the No. 2 spot. Senior Brice Allanic dropped his match 6-3, 6-3 just 24 hours after playing a singles match that lasted more than three hours.
Charleston will have a week off before hosting UMBC on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 3 pm..
