
Cougars Drop 4-2 Match to Pirates in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College of Charleston men's tennis dropped a 4-2 decision against East Carolina on Friday afternoon at Charlotte's Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
The Cougars' loss (11-7, 1-1 CAA) snapped a five-match losing streak for the Pirates, who moved to 10-10 on the season.
Sophomore Rodrigo Encinas and junior Josh Record picked up their fifth straight doubles win on court three with a 6-4 win over ECU's Nicolas Soriano and Damien Brenard. The Pirates picked up a wins on courts one and two to clinch the doubles point and take an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Charleston earned wins in the No. 2 and 3 spots. Encinas defeated Tendai Tapfuma 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 2 position while on court three, senior Charlie Ghriskey staved off a late rally attempt by Brenard to take a 6-4, 7-5 score for his 13th victory of the year. Senior Alon Faiman was in the early stages of his third set with opponent Patriek Wolterbeek at the No. 6 spot when the Pirates clinched the match.
College of Charleston returns to the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex for a noon match with the weekend's host, Charlotte. The 49ers defeated East Carolina, 4-3, on Friday evening for their eight straight win.
