Must-Win Senior Night Matchup Pits Cougars Against Huskies
10/28/2016 1:52:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (3-8-3; 1-3-2 vs. CAA) will celebrate the careers of its senior players and fight to stay alive in the hunt for a CAA Tournament berth Saturday when they host the Northeastern Huskies (6-9; 3-4 vs. CAA) Saturday for Senior Night at 7 p.m.
Prior to the contest, CofC will honor six seniors on the current roster, including Nico Rittmeyer, Kye West, Adan Noel, Jake Nelson, Nicolas Jeausseran and Joseph Terry. They'll also recognize Erik Clark, who's remained with the team despite injuries cutting his CofC playing career short.
The Cougars come off of a heartbreaking loss in overtime to the Georgia State Panthers. In his first start of the season, Brian Kilgallon fought to keep the Cougars afloat through all of regulation, playing a perfect 90 minutes to keep the game scoreless. Unfortunately, GSU blasted one on frame midway through the first overtime period, Kilgallon made the save, but coughed up the rebound that was hammered home. Avery Ryan returned from injury to lead CofC with three shots in defeat.
At five points on the regular season, the Cougars find themselves in a do-or-die situation with two games to go, and they'll need wins in both of their remaining contests to give themselves a chance. That begins with the Huskies.
The Cougars hold a 1-2 record against Northeastern since joining the CAA, with the last two contests going the way of NU. In last season's contest, Leland Archer scored a goal in the 62nd minute, but it wasn't enough to erase two first half goals by the Huskies. Northeastern enters the contest having won 4 of its last 5, which is a stark contrast with the team's 2-8 start to the season.
