CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Though the extreme weather conditions forced the College of Charleston cross country program to compete with less than a full lineup at the Royals Challenge, the Cougars nonetheless submitted multiple PRs en route to an encouraging outing.

"I'm really excited about what I saw today," head coach Amy Seago said. "We obviously had a very chaotic situation with what's going on off the coast, but both the men and women did excellent today, and it really speaks volumes to how our training is paying off."

The men competed without three of their Top-6 runners, but nonetheless finished 16th among a field of 45 teams. For the first time this season, freshman standout Hayden DiBona finished first among his teammates and took 33rd overall with a time of 25:35.5. That effort vaulted him to seventh-fastest in CofC 8K history. Junior Crew Kosiorek finished next for the Cougars in 48th (25:52.2), and Grant Gauthier (126th), Logan Veatch (158th) and Andrew Tyler (195th) rounded things out. Veatch's time of 27:17.6 shaved over 30 seconds off of his previous personal best.

The Cougars didn't have enough bodies on the women's side to qualify for a team-score, but that didn't stop all four runners who did compete from having strong outings. Tori Churchill (17:50.9) and Ellen Feringa (17:56.2) finished 8th and 12th respectively, as both improved their foothold in the all-time standings. Tori Churchill jumped up a spot to 4th-fastest on the CofC all-time 5K list, while Feringa jumped multiple spots to No. 5.

Behind them, Jace Kosiorek had a big PR time of 20:31.7 which shattered her PR by nearly 90 seconds. Mads Nelson made her CofC debut, finishing in gutsy fashion despite losing a shoe midway through the race.

The College now looks ahead to next Friday, when they travel to Kernersville, N.C. for the HPU Vert XC Invitational.
