Cougars Win 4-2, Score Four Unanswered in Come-From-Behind Thriller
10/9/2016 4:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, DEL. – After a bleak start to the game in which the Cougars surrendered a 2-0 deficit, the College of Charleston women's soccer team (9-5-1; 2-2-1 vs. CAA) rallied to score four unanswered goals in the final 39 minutes to stun the Delaware Blue Hens (3-12; 2-4 vs. CAA) with a 4-2 victory.
• Jessica Schifer was the star of the game for the Cougars, scoring two goals on the day, including the game-winner. The first game-tying tally came in the 58th minute on the tail end of a corner attempt, while the second came off of a Raymara Barreto free kick from 40 yards out which Schifer cleaned up low. Both scores came from inside the box from ten yards out.
• Ali Freitas got the CofC scoring started just over five minutes after Delaware's second goal. Freitas sent the ball in high, clanged it off the post and in (52'). Laura Ortega also got in on the scoring with an insurance goal in the 84th minute, doing so on an assist from freshman Alyssa Beck.
• Mother Nature played a significant role in the contest, with winds surpassing 20 MPH. Of the six goals in the game, five were scored at the south end of the pitch with the gusts helping to carry the ball in.
• Bailie Fout earned the win in her first collegiate start in goal, making five saves in the effort.
The Cougars will have the next four days to prepare for the latter half of their road trip. Their next game sends them to Harrisonburg, Va. for a 7 p.m. showdown with the JMU Dukes (6-8; 3-2 vs. CAA) on Friday.
