Cougars Whack Wildcats 5-2 to Rise to 3-0

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season Friday, handing Bethune-Cookman (0-5) the 5-2 defeat on the road.
For the third straight match, the Cougars swept through doubles play without suffering a loss. Both the Kusmider brothers in the third flight and the duo of Benedikt Henning and Easton Thomas in the second flight pushed their doubles records to 3-0 with 7-5 and 6-3 respectively.
Ryan Khan turned in a near-effortless performance in the fifth flight, beating Pablo Lopez 6-0, 6-1. Juan Estevarena had nearly as easy a time in top flight singles, vanquishing Greg Almeida 6-0, 6-2.
CofC rounded out the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win from Benedikt Henning in the second flight and a 6-1, 6-4 win from Vasily Kichigin in the third flight.
Though it didn't result in a Cougar win, the most exciting matchup came from Fernando Lascurian and Juan Diego Ruiz in the sixth flight. The two played evenly in the first set, and after a tiebreak, Lascurian went up 1-0 in the match with a 7-6(8) win. Ruiz bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second set to tie things at 1-1, and then took the super tiebreak 10-4 to seal the match.
The Cougars have two games on the docket the next day in Tallahassee, where they will play Florida A&M at 11 a.m. and Florida State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
