Cougars Rise to 2-0 with 6-1 Win Over NC A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season Sunday thanks to a 6-1 victory over the NC A&T Aggies.
In their first outing together, Fernando Lascurian and Franz Sydow struck first in doubles play, picking up a 6-1 win in the third flight. The Kusmider brothers followed suit in the second flight, defeating Brett Caban and Dreshaun Jarmon 6-4 to give CofC the point.
Lascurian picked up where he left off in doubles play at the onset of singles play, sweeping past Keiston France 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth flight to give the Cougars the 2-0 lead. Juan Estevarena (6-1, 6-2), Benedikt Henning (6-1, 6-1) and Ryan Khan all managed to escape with minimal damage to put CofC up 5-0 to guarantee the win.
Two of the singles matches turned out to be hotly contested affairs. Vasily Kichigin took the opening set 6-4 against Adair Bartra in the third flight, but Bartra won the second 6-2 to force a super tiebreak, where he prevailed 10-7 to give the Aggies their only point of the day. Rodrigo Encinas meanwhile was forced into a second-set tiebreak before dispatching Brett Caban 6-3, 7-6(1) in the fourth flight.
The Cougars were originally scheduled to play a match with Queens earlier in the day, but overnight rains in Charlotte rendered the courts unplayable for that match, thus limiting the College to just the one match on the day.
CofC will look at another three-match weekend coming up, as they are slated to play Bethune Cookman, Florida State and Florida A&M spanning next Friday and Saturday.
